Your Health: Battling breast cancer while pregnant

Laura Frette was just 32 years old—and 16 weeks pregnant—when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
“I wanted to know where it came from,” Frette said. “How was I the one that ended up with it.”
Frette doesn't have a family history of breast cancer and she's done self-breast exams since she was 15.
When reality hit home, the last thing she wanted were intense treatments.
“My oncologist really didn’t give me a choice,” Frette said. “She said, ‘You have a baby to worry about.’ And I thank her every day.”
Laura ultimately had a healthy baby boy, but because of her battle with cancer, it was a real team effort.
Chemo or radiation treatments are tough enough—let alone bringing an unborn baby into the battle—but thanks to strides in medicine, the odds for moms like Laura are better now than ever before.
For Laura, little Barrett is a miracle baby, caught up in a battle to beat cancer, but as her fight continues, Laura is now armed with a simple message that can save a life.
