When interior designer Sarah Stacey starts to sketch plans for a room, she always begins with an inspiration piece.
“It can help you formulate a plan,” she said. “It can keep your design consistent. It can also help you figure out other color palettes. With this piece, my client's dad painted it for her."
A large painting on a wall provided plenty of inspiration for Stacey to get started.
“It's pretty fantastic,” Stacey said. “When I look at this piece, it makes me feel happy. It's fun. It has a lot of white space, it's modern. So what I did when I picked the material and designed this space, I kept checking back with those feelings and ideas and made sure my plan was consistent throughout."
The result is a room filled with neutrals, accented with bright pops of rainbow colors in the accessories.
“The second piece is this snow leopard,” Stacey said. “I just loved the way it looked with the rainbow. From those, I took out some colors in the rainbow - this chartreuse fabric, and the herringbone fabric, which is blue, and this blue stripe fabric which we placed on the ottoman."
So, if you’re feeling stuck in a style rut, find an item you love to help you get started in a whole new direction.
