Instead of walking the halls of high school, 40 Austin area students sat in class at Samsung to study how they do business for the rest of the week.
The program is a three-day workshop called SEMI High-tech U, which aims to give students a first-hand look at statistics, electronics, math and nano-technology. Samsung Austin Semiconductor and the Austin Community College District hosted the program.
"We need kids to be involved in science and technology so the future of this nation, and the future of Austin, will be in this environment," Charmain Winters with Samsung Human Recourses said.
Cedar Ridge junior Eric Pava said the program is already getting him geared up for his future.
"For someone like me who would like to know more about mechanical engineering or engineering in general, coming to one of these programs helps me understand what I'll be doing if I pursue this career," he said. "Even someone in college doesn't know as much of the information as someone who started like me."
Last year, Samsung hired over 150 new engineers here in Austin. This summer they plan to open up 50 to 70 new positions.
This is the first time SEMI High Tech U has come to Texas.
