Flu hasn’t arrived in Austin yet--but it’s coming--and it’s not too late to get you and your family vaccinated.

Pediatrician Dr. Ari Brown says just about anyone can get a flu shot, starting at six months old. Young children and pregnant women are urged to get vaccinated because they are more likely to suffer from complications after coming down with the disease.

If you aren’t keen to needles, there is a nasal spray available for people ages 2 to 49, and both the spray and the shot will provide ample protection from the flu.

Most people won’t experience side effects from getting vaccinated, aside from a body ache or perhaps a runny nose. However, Dr. Brown says suffering a minor side effect is no comparison to actually contracting the flu.

Find out more facts about the flu vaccination in this edition of “Growing Up Texas” in the video above.
