In the last edition of “Out in the Garden,” YNN's Donna Friedenreich went over what tools are essential for a comprehensive gardening kit.
We spoke with Merrideth Jiles, general manager at The Great Outdoors Nursery, about how to care for your new, specialized gardening gear.
Jiles said the first step in maintenance is cleanliness. For cutting tools, it’s important to wipe down the blades and remove any sap or residue. For larger tools like shovels, he recommends a special cleaning tool.
“I keep this bucket full of builder sand and about a cup of oil in it,” Jiles said. “Whenever I’m done digging I just shove it straight in there and the sand will help take off some of that dirt.”
