Before you begin to plant your spring vegetable garden, there are several things to consider.

Location, garden design and dirt quality should be at the forefront of any vegetable gardener’s mind.

If you don’t have the land to use, master gardener Patty Leander suggests using raised beds or containers to help you grow the spring veggies you desire.

“You could make a raised bed out of cedar or redwood or any rot-resistant wood,” she said. “A lot of these vegetables that we grow in the cool season grow very well in the cool season.”

Leander also goes into what makes an ideal soil setup in the video above.

Out in the Garden can be seen each Saturday morning. Austin Area Garden Council President Donna Friedenreich offers a journey through area gardens, like the Zilker Botanical Garden. She offers advice on what and when to plant from flowers to herbs and more.
