While most people don’t like to take a walk in the rain, dogs don’t seem to mind one bit.

The first annual “Strut Your Mutt” fundraiser kicked off at the Mueller Development in Central Austin Saturday morning, despite some steady rainfall. The canine-friendly event aims to raise money for homeless pets.

The wet weather was a welcome addition to the event, about 300 people showed up with their pups.

“Strut Your Mutt” is a national effort put on by the Best Friends Animal Society based in Utah.

Organizer Julie Castle says Austin is America’s largest no-kill community, but to maintain the no-kill status, it takes a lot of efforts from local advocacy groups and shelters alike.

The group raised $85,000, and hopes to make it $100,000. Click here for more information.
