With summer here, many people are deciding to take their family vacations.
If you are planning on heading out of town, make sure your home is protected. Officials with the Travis County Sheriff's Office offer tips on home security.
Some quick tips they offer include:
• Always lock your doors and windows
• Close the garage
• Lock your car doors
Officials said it's the everyday security measures that people forget when they go on vacation.
"Make sure that somebody's watching out for you when you’re not there. Also, make it appear like you’re home whether you have things that are on timers or you have those individuals that are coming to collect the newspaper, maybe moving a car. Make it appear as if you are still there," Senior Deputy Kimberly Orts said.
If you still need tips, deputies with the sheriff's department can come to your neighborhood to give home protection tips.
