A new year means a fresh start and while you might feel motivated right now, those feelings will likely fizzle.
Research shows only 12 percent of people actually keep their resolutions.
Here are a few things you can do to avoid being one of those who doesn't.
• Set one specific goal
Ex: “I want to reduce debt by $100 each month
• Set measurable goals so you can chart your progress
• Tell a buddy for accountability and positive reinforcement
• Write it down
A California study found people who wrote down their goals, shared them with others and maintained accountability were 33 percent more likely to achieve them.

Research shows that it takes at least 21 days to make a habit.
• Once you find out what’s not working, modify your plan.
