”Crackle”

It's always a treat to learn about new ways to access content on your mobile devices, especially when it’s free.

"Crackle" is an online service from Sony Pictures that's accessible via several devices, including computers, the PlayStation 3, certain Sony Bravia TVs and even some mobile TV services on phones. It's also an Android, iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch app.

The service has a whole host of movies from Columbia, TriStar, Screen Gems and Sony Pictures, with lots of television titles like "Seinfeld." The catch is that the shows have advertisements before, during and afterwards.

The iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch apps are free.

There's a free Android version which only allows a limited number of shows. Full access is $4.99 a month, although there is a workaround. Since Androids can play Flash, users can just go to the Crackle website and access the content for free that way.

”It's Tyrannosaurus Rex”

For most kids, anything that has a connection to dinosaurs is an instant hit. The new "It's Tyrannosaurus Rex" eBook isn't overly fancy with embedded games and coloring books, it's a straight-forward read with some compelling drawings and sound effects.

What makes this of particular interest is it's the first title from a new partnership between eBook creators Oceanhouse Media and the Soundprints collection of Smithsonian Institute books for kids to the eMarketplace.

Developers say this project was all vetted and approved by Smithsonian paleontologists.

The app does allow kids to touch the dinosaurs and hear how their names are pronounced.

"It's Tyrannosaurus Rex" is an iOS and Android app for $2.99.
