AppmatesDisney’s Appmates are little toys from Cars movies that literally drive the app that goes with them.
“The first time anyone has taken a toy no chips, no bluetooth, no battery required and made it come to life on the iPad. Every car is uniquely identified by capacitive sensors on the bottom and then when I hold it place it on the iPad, the iPad recognizes the vehicle and then the world interacts with every character in a different way,” Disney Consumer Products Sunny Lauridsen said. “So it recognizes the character, the direction it's facing and then the screen and other characters interact with it. We have the playmate mode which basically turns the iPad into a virtual playmate, we also have racing, of course racing is a huge part of the world of cars. In addition to that, we have missions so if you encounter a character that has a speech bubble you stop, interact with them and then help them perform a task.
The app will be out Oct. 1. The Cars Appmates come in packs of two for $20. The iPad-only app, which powers them, is free.
SilverLit's Enzo Ferrari Bluetooth
SilverLit's Enzo Ferrari Bluetooth is a remote-control car controlled remotely through an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch.
“It's all gesture technology so when you press down it's just like you're pressing down on a gas pedal, when you turn it's just like you're steering, has a horn, lights, hazards, turn signals, real working mirrors,” SilverLit Toys spokesperson Neal Hoffman said.
The same company is also coming out with a helicopter you fly through your iDevice. Those will be about $80 and will be out mid-October.
