You may notice all that scaffolding on the outside of the State Capitol.

Workers are continuing to put a multi-million dollar facelift on the building.

For more information:

“What we are doing right now is a complete stripping and repainting of the Texas Capitol on the exterior and also repair of some sheet metal parts that have been damaged in the last 20 years, since the previous restoration,” Project Manager David Stauch said.

The project is both an interior and exterior restoration effort.

“We’re doing the exterior, which is the dome work and all the roof elements, but we’re also doing an interior project, restoring the house chamber’s ceilings,” Stauch said.

John Schaeffer visited the Capitol during the renovations Wednesday.

"This is what people see when they come to visit the Capitol," he said. "This is what represents us."

The project is estimated to cost about $3 million.

The money is coming from the Capitol Renewal Fund. Work is expected to be wrapped up before the beginning of the legislative session in January.
