Families came out to get expert advice on fishing Saturday.
Williamson County held its first ever "Learn to Fish" event at the Southwest Regional Park in Leander.
"It's for boys. It's for girls. It's for adults teenagers. We can get everybody together, get them outdoors. You know get them away from some of the bad influences as they get older and just really have a family friendly activity," parent Rebecca Clemons said.
Catching a fish brings a lot of excitement after learning to cast and waiting. Even if you don't have any luck, some will tell you it's still fun.
"Ever since she's been an infant, we've taken her on hunting trips. We've taken her on fishing trips. Now that my nephew is old enough, we bring him along whenever we can," Clemons said.
Hundreds of kids and their parents lined up to get their hands on a rod.
"Our hope is that they enjoy their time. They've learned some new skills. They've seen the beauty of the creation out here and just have an opportunity to say, 'hey, this might be something I want to do,'" Williamson County Commissioner for Precinct two, Cynthia Long said.
Long also said that the county hopes to get 2,000 kids and their families involved in recreational boating and fishing by next spring.
