Suspected driver in fatal crash turns self in

Update --Police have confirmed that Tommy Lee Egger turned himself into authorities Tuesday night.

He was released on a 30,000 personal bond.

Earlier --The driver has been identified as 23-year-old Tommie Lee Egger.

Egger has been charged with Failure to Stop and Render Aid, a 3rd degree felony, and police are asking for the public’s help locating him.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts should call APD’s Vehicular Homicide Detectives at (512) 974-6981.

Earlier --Police are searching for a driver who fled the scene of a fatal crash in southwest Austin early Sunday morning.

It happened just after 3 a.m. when the driver of a Ford Mustang lost control while traveling westbound in the 7400 block of Twilight Shadow Drive. The driver veered off the roadway, striking a mailbox and light pole.

The passenger of the Mustang, 20-year-old Haley Nowak, died in the crash. The driver fled the scene on foot and has not been located.

Nowak’s death marks Austin’s 41st traffic fatality of 2012. At this time last year, there were 30 traffic fatalities.
