Despite the rain, about a hundred people were waiting in line at the Austin Convention Center on Saturday morning, to get their hands on Jay Z tickets. Some arrived as early as 2 a.m. to make sure they scored a free pair of tickets, handed out on a first come first serve basis.
The rapper will perform Monday night, as part of "Amex Sync Show Presenting Jay Z." The show, which will be at Austin City Limits Live at Moody Theater is scheduled to coincide with South by Southwest Interactive.
There is a social media twist for those who are hoping to take in the show. Tickets are only available to South by Southwest Interactive badge holders, who are also American Express Card holders, or have a friend who have a card.Card members then have to sync their American Express card to their Twitter account, to receive a pair of tickets.
The additional ticket is only valid if the guest is also a SXSW registrant.
"We're focused on going where our card members and our merchants are, so we're trying to bring our business model to life in the digital space," Dave Wolf with American Express said. "We've partnered with Foursquare, with Facebook, and we're super excited to be launching with Twitter."
For those who do not have tickets, the show will be broadcast live on Youtube, starting at seven p.m. Central Time. A special rebroadcast will be available on demand from March 13 through 19.
Fans can also request songs for Jay Z's set list through using hashtags #JAYZSyncShow and #Song.
