Update-- The man pulled from the waters of Lady Bird Lake has been pronounced dead, according to a spokesperson for the Austin Police Department.
Earlier-- Rescue crews have pulled a swimmer from Lady Bird Lake after the man went missing beneath the water.
According to Lt. Jim Baker with the Austin Fire Department, 9-1-1 dispatchers received a call at about 1:30 saying a man had disappeared in the water.
Crews from the Austin Fire Department and Austin/Travis County EMS responded. Divers took to the water and found the man after about 15 or 20 minutes. Baker said the man was found at the bottom of the lake, about eight feet deep.
CPR was performed as he was transported to a University Medical Center Brackenridge. He was noted to be in “very critical” condition by EMS at the scene.
Family members told rescue workers that the man did not know how to swim and had simply gone too far into the lake.
The man’s identity is unknown, but he was said to be between 36 and 38 years old.
