How do you tell your friends you've flown the coop? Centuries ago, some adventures started with the simple words: “Gone to Texas.”
The tradition lives on Tuesday night with the University of Texas' annual welcome party. Eight-thousand students are expected to hear from university leaders in an effort to bring everyone together.
"This event and many other events like it really make many of us feel much more at home,” student Kiefer Shenk said. “It really is a close-knit community, there really are a lot of us, but we all love each other. And we're all getting a great education and that's something we can all bond over."
