Hutto High School is making sure every student has a chance to cheer on their school this year.
The school is starting a new special needs cheer team, the Hutto Heroes. It’s one of the first of its kind in the state.
Team members get to meet the football team and learn from the varsity cheer squad. Organizers were hoping to get five kids for their first year, but more than a dozen have come out, including boys and girls from eight to 21 years old.
Daci Crites is on the inaugural team. Her mother Donna says Daci is excited to feel connected and included at her school.
"We have great coaches and school that are willing to support and it's very exciting to know that Daci will be one of the first ones ever," she said.
The Hutto Heroes will perform in a pep rally and cheer at a football game later this year. Organizers say they hope this will inspire more special needs cheer teams across the state.
