Austin police made 106 arrests for driving while intoxicated over the Labor Day weekend. Officers made no arrests for boating while intoxicated.
The arrests came as part of a 'No Refusal' initiative which was enforced over the holiday weekend. During No Refusal initiatives, officers can more easily obtain search warrants to draw blood from DWI suspects who refuse to take alcohol breath tests.
Of those arrests, 39 agreed to take breathalyzer tests and officers drew blood samples for 67. Of the blood draws, 59 were obtained through search warrants.
The majority of suspects – 25 – who provided breath samples had a blood alcohol level between .08 and .15. Thirteen people had a blood alcohol level between .15 and .23 and one person had a blood alcohol level above .24.
The results from the blood tests are still pending.
