An Austin police officer was suspended for one day last month after leaving his firearm in a North Austin park.
City leaders say Officer Cameron Caldwell left his .40-caliber pistol on the tailgate of his truck while mountain biking in Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park on Aug. 9.
A passerby found the weapon in the parking lot and turned it over to police. The pistol was still in its holster.
Caldwell was found in violation of a department policy of keeping firearms and ammunition “inaccessible to children and irresponsible adults.”
