The Travis County Sheriff’s Department has identified the man who died at Lake Travis over the weekend as 39-year-old Miguel Garcia.
According to Roger Wade, a spokesperson for the Travis County Sheriff’s Department, Garcia was swimming with friends off of a boat near Hippie Hollow Park Saturday afternoon. The winds picked up, Wade said, causing the boat to drift away.
Garcia struggled in the water as bystanders worked to bring to boat back to him and get him out of the water.
Witnesses were able to pull Garcia to shore and begin life-saving measures, but their efforts were ultimately unsuccessful. Garcia was pronounced dead just before 6:45 p.m.
The Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office will investigate Garcia’s death, but Wade said that all evidence indicates that Garcia drowned.
