Austin police have released the man who was detained in connection with the murder of 29-year-old Malachi McBeth last week.
According to a police spokesperson, detectives consulted with the Travis County District Attorney’s Office and will present the case to a grand jury. The grand jury will then decide to file charges or not.
Last Thursday, officers found McBeth with a gunshot wound while responding to a call of shots fired at an apartment complex 4700 East Riverside Drive, near Pleasant Valley Road. He was transferred to Brackenridge Hospital where he died from his injuries at 2:40 p.m.
The male subject was detained at the scene and questioned by homicide detectives, and at the time, APD said they anticipated filing charges against him.
The investigation into McBeth’s murder is ongoing. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call APD’s Homicide Tip Line at (512) 477-3588 or CrimeStoppers at (512) 472-TIPS.
This is Austin's 13th murder of 2013.
