In Monday's episode of Your Sports Now, Ricky Doyle and Lauren Mickler take you inside the continuing controversy over at Texas. The team endured another embarrassing loss to Ole Miss on Saturday, just as unexpected and painful as last week's loss to BYU. The Horns showed some promise in the second quarter with some big stops and building momentum, but sometime between then and the beginning of the second half, the Horns lost their footing, and couldn't hold on to anything the Rebels sent their way.
Every time they tack one of these on, they no doubt suffer a blow to their confidence, they further frustrate and already on-edge fan base, and give their upcoming conference opponents another reason to see an advantage over the Longhorns. These are all things the team is very aware of, and apologetic about, but they didn't seem to know exactly why it all went down the way it did at DKR on Saturday, which means they might not know exactly how to fix it before Kansas State comes to town this weekend. Mack Brown insists, they're pinpointing the problems, holding players and coaches accountable, while doing their best to maintain enough morale to be a force against the Wildcats. They have just under a week to get their business in order, or be ready to endure what could be the last straw for many of the Texas faithful.
One man who's holding tight to the Texas team is Lou Holtz. The ESPN analyst and anchor put it all on the podium in defense of Mack Brown Monday, we show you the highlights of his emotional speech backing Brown.
In Waco, the Bears are looking the opposite of the Horns. Art Briles and his guys are on fire out at Baylor, and people are taking notice. We check in with Briles and his raging offense, who's turning it on in the Big 12.
On the prep front, we bring you a special Athlete of the Week. He's got a tricky name, a beaming smile, and some of the best rushing highlights you've seen out of a high schooler. Lauren Mickler goes one-on-one with Samaje Perine, about his senior season, that's already topping the charts, and his hopes as he heads off to Oklahoma next fall, AND it's his birthday!
Happy Birthday Samaje! For the rest of you, we hope you enjoy this installment of Your Sports Now.
