In Monday's episode of Your Sports Now, Ricky Doyle catches you up on the Longhorns, starting with an inside look at the athletic department's job security rumors. Bill Powers broke things down with Doyle, saying he stands behind Mack and DeLoss.
"The athletic director reports to me. I would not just be heavily involved, that is a presidential choice," said Powers in reference to any chance DeLoss Dodds would be replaced in the future.
The rest of the Horns are in iffy shape, with David Ash and Jordan Hicks still out, Hicks for the season and Ash indefinitely, as doctors continue to evaluate the quarterback. Those two add to an already long list, including Daje Johnson, Mike Davis, and Josh Cochran. They will have between now and the Iowa State game on October 3rd.
There are two high school teams on the rise in Central Texas, programs that are only two years old. The East View Patriots and Cedar Ridge Raiders are in their second seasons as varsity teams, and they are starting things off leaps and bounds beyond where they were last season. Both Rob Davies, the Patriots head coach, and Todd Ford, the Raiders head coach, say the difference this year is the teams' maturity, physicality, and confidence, among other things, that have started East View off at 4-0, and Cedar Ridge off at 3-1.
