Update -- Austin fire officials say the man's death is not being considered suspicious, and are waiting for the cause of death from the medical examiner's office.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined. In all, the fire caused $10,000 in structural damage and $10,000 in damage to contents.
Earlier -- A man believed to be about age 60 was found dead Wednesday morning at the scene of a small fire in North Austin.
Fire crews were called to the 1700 block of Mearns Meadow Boulevard at about 10:30 a.m. Fire officials say they were in the area and had a crew at the residence within two minutes of the 911 call.
Upon entering the home, they found a small fire in the bedroom of the home. Very shortly after, they located the victim in a bedroom. The man was the only one home at the time of the blaze.
Battalion Chief Thayer Smith said he had few details about what might have happened, and wouldn’t until further investigation is completed.
“We’re in the investigation phase as is standard in any time of incident,” he said.
