One of Austin's most popular venues is looking for help.
The Long Center for the Performing Arts is turning to the city for relief of some expenses. They want to see if there's a better way to operate that wouldn't require the Long Center to spend as much on issues like safety and parking.
"We spend about $250,000 a year on safety, security and parking here at the Long Center as part of our annual operating costs,” Long Center Executive Director Jamie Grant said. “About $135,000 of that is to hire off-duty police officers who direct patrons into a garage that's operated by the city."
Talks with the city are ongoing, and Grant says despite the discussions, the Long Center is not in a financial crisis.
