Austin police released more details Monday about a man who died after he was assaulted downtown last month.
Officers say just before midnight on Sept. 20, 42-year-old Brian Pentecost was found unresponsive on the sidewalk of 101 West Fifth Street in front of the Suite 101 nightclub.
Pentecost was taken to Brackenridge Hospital where he died nine days later. The medical examiner ruled his death a homicide caused by blunt force trauma.
Sgt. Brian Miller with APD said that Pentecost was a transient living in downtown Austin.
A witness told detectives Pentecost was assaulted by a male suspect who fled after the attack. The suspect is described to be white, six-feet two-inches tall, with a muscular build in his 20s or 30s. The witness said Pentecost and the suspect had some sort of interaction before the incident. Police do not believe the suspect was transient.
There is no surveillance footage from area bars or city cameras that captured the attack.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call APD’s Homicide Tip Line at (512) 477-3588 or CrimeStoppers at (512) 472-TIPS. Information leading to an arrest or charges filed could be eligible for a $1,000 reward.
