Some people think the government shutdown won’t impact their lives, but do you know it could put a damper on going for a Friday night beer?
Austin Business Journal Editor Colin Pope said the partial government shutdown has put the brakes on the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau. The federal organization is still processing tax rates, but wont’ be helping craft breweries with new or pending permitting.
Luckily, it won’t mean much for Austin and Central Texas breweries. The bureau is only needed for brew masters hoping to trade beer across the state lines. The local breweries here just got the state legislature’s blessing to bottle on site, so they most likely aren’t too worried about capitalizing on out-of-state beer drinkers.
