On Monday, San Antonio celebrated summer one final time before the end of the season.
The city is holding its inaugural Kidcation celebration this week, bringing music, games and partying together one last time before the kids have to go back to school.
"Take that last hurrah to come to San Antonio and experience why we are the family destination in Texas," Casandra Matej with the San Antonio Visitors Bureau said.
For this year’s inaugural event, more than 100 attractions and activities, including theme parks and museums, are offering special discounts for children.
"Kidcation is a brilliant idea,” San Antonio’s Mayor Julian Castro. “It comes at a time when parents are looking for one last good time to have before the summer's over."
Traditionally, the city has seen the numbers of visitors drop the closer the start of school gets. Kidcation is designed to give the local tourism industry a boost.
"We do see a dip in our travel the last two weeks before school starts, so anything to encourage visitors to come to San Antonio,” Matej said. “It's a really exciting time to be here."
The Mmyor hopes Kidcation enhances his city's family friendly reputation.
"San Antonio is going to set a new standard for exciting places for kids to go and visit," Mayor Castro said.
San Antonio's Kidcation continues through Sunday. Each day there are different events and activities. You can find a complete schedule at visit: sanantonio.com.
