John Paul II moves step closer to sainthood
VATICAN CITY -- The road to sainthood for Pope John Paul II has gotten shorter as Catholic Church officials have closed an investigation into his life.
It's a key milestone and it includes a dossier detailing the purported miraculous cure of a nun who prayed to him.
The events come two years to the day after John Paul died. It's an amazingly fast pace that emphasizes the Catholic Church's keen interest in responding to the calls of "Santo Subito" or "Sainthood Now!" that erupted following his death.
Pope Benedict celebrated a Mass marking the second anniversary of John Paul's death. Pope Benedict put John Paul on the fast track for possible sainthood just weeks after he died.
Such a waiver had only been granted once before: for Mother Teresa, who was beatified in 2003 -- just six years after her death.
