Bell County teen helps keep promise to 'Never Forget'

A special memorial was unveiled in Killeen Sunday, to mark the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The memorial was part of an Eagle Scout project led by 15-year-old Mathew Schwartzman.

Communities of Austin, Bastrop remember 9/11

Despite a devastating week in Bastrop, community members there still came together Sunday to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks. Also, the Austin Firefighters Association held a memorial to honor the 343 firefighters who lost their lives as a result of the attacks.

The moments mark the times that each plane hit the towers; when each tower fell; and the attacks on the Pentagon and Flight 93. Houses of worship throughout the city were asked to toll their bells for the first moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., which marks when the first plane hit the North Tower. The second moment of silence came at 9:03 a.m. to mark when the second plane hit the South Tower.

Local Texas Task Force 1 members tell their 9/11 stories

Texas Task Force 1 is Texas's most elite recovery task force and has been dispatched to some of America's most destructive disasters. Two firefighters with the Austin Fire Department were dispatched with the task force to aid in the recovery efforts after the terrorist attacks on September 11.
