When the Lake Travis baseball team beat Corpus Christi Moody Friday night, that finished off a Cavs sweep and moved them into the Regional Championship round. Saturday afternoon, the McNeil Mavericks were hoping to follow suit in a do-or-die Game 3 against Bryan.

What followed was a very competitive game with a very strange ending.

McNeil trailed 2-0 in the fifth inning when Tim Hunter squared to bunt, but pulled back and smoked the ball to right for a game-tying two-run homer.

Bryan scored and took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the 7th.

With McNeil's Brennon Veazey on second base, Hunter Wiruscheske singled up the middle. The ball stays on the infield, so we'd have a play at the plate. Veazey looked like he tagged home plate but the umpire didn't think so. Veazey got up, circled back to home and the umpire called him out.

The run would have tied the game but instead it's game over. McNeil's season is over after a 3-2 loss, a devastating finish to a great year.
