Texas State Head Football Coach Dennis Franchione couldn't be more excited about the team he'll be putting on the field in less than two weeks. A big reason for his excitement is tight end Chase Harper.

When Franchione came over as Texas State head football coach, he brought over several key people from his staff at Blinn College. One other person who came along with Franchione was from Blinn College’s biggest rival Navarro College, transfer tight end Chase Harper.

“He’s athletic. He can catch. He can block. He loves to play,” Franchione said.

Harper said he joined the team at the perfect time and calls it a “new era.”

“[It’s] my senior year and I want to win. So, whatever it takes to win I’m willing to do it,” he said.

Harper was also nominated for the John Mackey award watch list for best tight end in the country.

“I’m focused on the team getting better,” Harper said. “It’s all about the team, not me right now.”

Chase Harper and the Texas State football team will kick off the 2012 season on Sept. 1. The Bobcats start on the road against the University of Houston.
