His birth certificate lists his middle name as "Magic", and on Saturday in Lubbock, Mike Davis made a whole bunch of it.

"Before the plays, he was like, 'Throw it to me, it's a touchdown'. So I threw it to him, and it was a touchdown," said quarterback David Ash with a smile.

In front of a record Jones AT&T Stadium crowd, Davis caught two touchdown passes and racked-up 165 receiving yards, both new career highs.

His UT career has at times been marked by disappointment, but against the Red Raiders, it was marked by domination.

"It's so much fun catching the deep balls. Seeing the ball come out of David Ash's arm -- he puts a pretty ball up there," Davis said after the game.

Speaking of Ash -- what a bounce back game for the sophomore quarterback. Proving that one week in college football has nothing to do with the next, Ash racked-up 264 yards and three touchdowns through the air. He did all of that a week after being benched because he couldn't move the ball against the worst team in the Big 12.

"He did a great job of stepping back up after the game last week. He made some great plays, some great throws, and just was really mature and a very good leader out there for us," said wide receiver Jaxon Shipley.

But the Horns first win in ten-tries against a ranked team wasn't just thanks to the offense. The defense played arguably its best game of the year, limiting big plays and forcing Tech to kick field goals instead of allowing touchdowns.

"We played the way that we've been expected to play. We came out and we gave great energy, we stuck to the game plan, and I think it all worked out for us," cornerback Carrington Byndom said.

Simple and true.

More of the same, and the 7-2 Longhorns may find that their once crumbling season has the look of a near masterpiece.
