Leander’s Rouse Raiders are an unstoppable runaway train, and the conductor is senior quarterback Justin Pelt.

In his first full season as starting quarterback, Pelt's steadying influence has helped the Raiders reach never-before seen heights.

In just their third varsity season, Rouse is two wins away from a state championship, after winning two games total over its first two seasons.

"Sometimes the stats might not look as great when you look at my stats, but one thing I take pride in is knowing that, as a quarterback, when I start on the field, we win," Pelt said.

Don’t let him convince you they're unimpressive – Pelt is accounted for 28 touchdowns, and that's without the help of a pair of games he missed due to a high ankle sprain .

After two long seasons, Pelt and his teammates endured the endless frustration involved with starting a football program, but the dual-threat QB says it was all worth it.

"It's been one of the most amazing journey's I've ever been on,” Pelt said. “I think most of the fun comes from how hard we worked during the off-season, how hard we worked over the summer, and finally being able to see it pay off right in front of your eyes. I'll probably never get another season like this with all these guys in high school, so I'm just relishing it."

The end is in sight--whether it's this coming weekend in the Class 4A semis or two weeks from now in the state championship, the Rouse train has nearly reached its destination.
