The Georgetown Lady Eagles took home the 4A state title last weekend with senior guard Kaitlin Walla leading the way.
It got better for Walla. Her 26 points and seven rebounds earned her tournament MVP honors.
“This the culmination of everything,” Walla said. “Every extra hour in the gym, every event I had to miss because I had basketball. This is all worth it for this."
Georgetown trailed the majority of the game, but outscored Dallas Lincoln 17-8 in the 4th quarter. Walla was instrumental in the comeback that brought the school its first state title since 1979.
Lady Eagles coach Rhonda Farney had been to the state tournament five times in the past, walking away empty-handed every single time. But this year at the Frank Erwin Center, she finally got the trophy.
“I would have been disappointed to not win but that’s not what motivates me,” Farney said. “What motivates me is I love what I’m doing every day with the kids.”
Walla isn't done with basketball by any means. She's headed to Texas State to play for the Bobcats.
