It’s been a rough August for the Round Rock Express.
Their division lead is gone, but what they've found is a strong arm on the bump in a new role. Friday night in Round Rock, Evan Meek was presented as the PCL pitcher of the week.
“It’s a good honor,” Meek said. “We were in Memphis and I saw this piece of paper on my locker and thought ‘That’s pretty cool.’”
Back in 2010, Meek made the MLB all-star game with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Back then and for most of his career, he was a reliever, but now that he’s on the Express, Meek has moved into a starter spot.
“After the all-star season, I thought ‘This is okay, I’m a reliever. That’s my role in the Big Leagues,’” Meek said. “If you told me that three years later I’d be a starter trying to get back into the Big Leagues, I wouldn’t have believed you.”
And as the Express’ season has taken a turn for the worse, he's the type of guy you need in the clubhouse
“Baseball is supposed to be fun, and sometimes when you get to this level, you get wrapped up sometimes and forget to have fun,” Meek said.
Meek and the Express finally broke their 10-game losing streak. Now they’re making their push for the PCL playoffs.
