High school basketball season is in full swing.
For most teams, district play began last week and nobody is lighting up the scoreboard quite like San Marcos guard Collin Hart.
"It just seems like the basket is really open, and a lot of stuff is going in," Hart said. "It's definitely fun to play in those kinds of games."
Those are games when Hart says he’s in “the zone", and he has spent a lot of time there this season. He’s averaged 27 points per game and twice he's scored 37 points.
"I know how to work for a shot," Hart said. "I can create my own shot. It gets me open too."
This is Hart's third season on varsity, and so far, his third time has proven to be the charm.
Hart has evolved into one of the top scorers in Central Texas.
"It's been pretty neat. He's transformed into a really good player," Coach David Norris said. "He knows the game. To see him grow from the past couple years - he's become a leader."
Hart credits a big part of his transformation to the work he put in this summer under the watchful eye of former Spurs great Johnny Moore.
Hart was playing with some of the best players in the area.
"It showed me how to be a point guard and work on my skills," Hart said. "I played with a lot of D1 recruits. It helped me a lot."
The improvement has turned Hart into a Division 1 recruit himself. Northeastern University is the latest to come calling.
Before he answers, he has business to finish with the Rattlers.
"We want to get far into the playoffs. I think we can," Hart said.
Collin said he hopes to play college basketball next season on a full scholarship.
