With 17 seconds left in the game and Hutto only one point behind Thursday, the pitch went to AJ Lopez, who leads his team to a dramatic victory on the football field.
It was the biggest game of the year so far for the Hippos, and the senior did it all. Lopez had a huge catch to set up their first touchdown. He also had the game winner, as well as his duties on defense and special teams.
During Lopez's time at Hutto, the Hippos haven't faced the kind of adversity they're facing this year during district play. He realizes that’s why his team needs him even more to step up as a leader.
With the win, Lopez and the Hippos move to 4-3 on the season and 2-2 in district play. Next up for Hutto is a date with undefeated Georgetown Friday.
