If it's an athletics facility and it's on the campus of Texas State University, chances are
it's new.
Bobcat Baseball Stadium, Bobcat Softball Stadium, and more.
But nothing shines more brightly or holds as much importance then the school's football complex, which now includes brand new FieldTurf.
"It's almost like walking on grass. It feels great -- obviously you can look out the window and see that it looks great," said head football coach Brad Wright.
The FieldTurf cost 400-thousand bucks and in addition to looking and feeling good, will allow the Bobcats to practice on it no matter what the weather is.
"It's great to host other teams -- they're going to know they're coming into a first class facility, a safe facility to play on, so I think it's another piece of the puzzle," Athletic Director Dr. Larry Teis added.
The addition of the FieldTurf is another step in the direction of a move to FBS play -- that's Football Bowl Subdivision.
As for when it might happen? That remains a mystery, because it's something that's out of the University's hands.
But Dr. Teis says it's something he's confident will happen sooner then later.
"This place is too good for it not to happen, for Texas State to move to another level. All we're doing is making ourselves better so in case it does come up, we will be ready to go," said Teis.
High atop Jim Wacker Field sits the West Side Complex. Completed last year at a price of almost 17-million-dollars, it has 15-suites and a spacious club level.
It's additions like this that have Texas State confident it can recruit the best players and
continue its streak of two-straight winning seasons.
