APD officer will not face charges in 2011 fatal shooting

A Travis County Grand Jury ruled Tuesday that APD Officer Steven Peña will not face charges in the fatal shooting of 30-year-old Gilbert Vallejo. Last May, Peña was one of several officers who responded to reports of shots fired at an apartment door on Burton Drive. The grand jury heard from witnesses who said Vallejo was shooting and trying to kick in the door of the apartment where his former girlfriend lived.

Swimmer identified in Lake Travis drowning

According to Roger Wade with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, 27-year-old Angel Martinez Aguilar drowned near Bob Wentz Park Sunday when he was attempting to swim across a cove. Bystanders noticed he began to struggle about halfway across and pulled him from the water. Aguilar's death is the first drowning in Lake Travis of the year.
