Two Central Texas soldiers killed in Iraq

By: Associated Press

Sgt. Byron W. Norwood

A Marine killed by enemy action in Iraq over the weekend has been identified as an Austin-area man.

The Pentagon identifies the death Marine as 25-year-old Marine Sgt. Byron W. Norwood of Pflugerville.

The Defense Department statement said the attack happened in the Al Anbar province west of Baghdad, but provides no other details.

Norwood was assigned to Third Battalion, First Marine Regiment, First Marine Division, First Marine Expeditionary Force from Camp Pendleton, California.

That brings to at least 105 the number of Texans in the military who have died in Iraq since the war began March 20th, 2003.

Sgt. John Byron Trotter

Army Sgt. John Byron Trotter helped recover bodies from the Pentagon after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack.

Now, the Hill Country soldier's friends and family are remembering his service after the 25-year-old soldier's death in Iraq.

Trotter was killed Tuesday in Ramadi, Iraq, after his patrol came under small-arms fire.

The San Antonio Express-News reports about 200 people filled a San Antonio chapel Sunday to eulogize and hear eulogies about the Blanco High School grad.

Older brother Fred Trotter said the experience of recovering bodies from the smashed section of the Pentagon moved his brother to re-enlist. He said his brother John knew duty would take him to Iraq.

But Trotter says brother John “had a motivation for justice -- He wanted to honor the friends he lost on Sept. 11 by going to Iraq.''

The Express-News reports Trotter is to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
