Pitonyak brought back to Austin
The University of Texas student who police say murdered a woman last week arrived back in Austin Thursday.
Austin police took custody of Colton Pitonyak in Eagle Pass, near the border, Thursday morning and drove him to Austin.
He's now being held in the Travis County Jail in lieu of posting a $1 million bond set by a Maverick County magistrate shortly after his arrest Tuesday in Eagle Pass.
Immigration officials expelled him from Mexico and handed him over to U.S. marshals.
Pitonyak is accused of murdering Jennifer Cave then mutilating her body in the West Campus area of Central Austin.
Funeral services were held for Cave on Tuesday in her hometown of Corpus Christi.
Pitonyak's family retained Austin lawyer Sam Bassett to represent Colton Pitonyak.
Pitonyak is not expected to make a court appearance any time soon, Bassett said. He may appear, if a motion is filed to reduce his bond, or if a grand jury indicts him for Cave's murder. It could take two to four weeks for the grand jury to hear the case and render its decision, Bassett said.
