Hall charged for helping Pitonyak escape
A warrant has been issued for the arrest Laura Ashley Hall for aiding accused killer Colton Pitonyak escape across the Mexican border.
Hall, 21, drove Pitonyak to Mexico in his attempt to flee the country.
Hall is charged with hindering apprehension by helping Pitonyak avoid arrest by attempting to hide him by taking him to another country, a third-degree felony.
Her bond is set at $175,000. A third-degree felony is punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison and/or a fine not to exceed $10,000.
In the affidavit, investigators say Hall drove Pitonyak to Mexico in her green Cadillac. Mexican authorities found her car and then expelled the two from the country.
Hall called a friend and told him that she was involved in the situation just two hours after it happened. She told the friend she would tell police that she was on vacation with Pitonyak.
In a later phone call her friends said Hall was distraught and confused and that she was starting to disavow knowledge of the murder.
Pitonyak and Hall checked into a Holiday Inn in Mexico and tried to get airline tickets to fly to Cuernavaca. They even tried to enlist the hotel clerk's help to sell Hall's car. Pintonyak even asked the clerk if Mexico extradites and if he knew of any countries that didn't, the affidavit says.
Hall told investigators that she was in love with Pitonyak and she said she traveled willingly with him to Mexico but disavowed any knowledge of the murder.
