The attorney for accused murderer Colton Pitonyak says he needs more time to review evidence in the case. A new hearing in the case is scheduled for Jan. 31.
"The district attorney and the police department worked together putting the evidence in one place and they haven't done that in quite sometime. Since there was a grand jury investigation going on, I did not have access to the evidence for some time, but now that I do, my first meeting is to start reviewing the evidence," defense attorney Sam Bassett said.
Police say back in July, Pitonyak murdered Jennifer Cave and then mutilated her body in the west campus area of Central Austin.
He then fled to Mexico with Laura Hall. She was indicted for helping Pitonyak avoid arrest. She posted bond and was released from jail over the weekend.
Pitonyak's attorney says he expects pretrial hearings to continue this spring. His trial could start late in 2006.
