An Austin District Court judge said Friday he’ll allow prosecutors to present evidence from Colton Pitonyak’s apartment in the former University of Texas student’s murder trial.

Pitonyak is accused of murdering Jennifer Cave, then mutilating her body in the West Campus area of Central Austin almost a year ago.

Defense attorneys had argued that police conducted an illegal search when they entered Pitonyak's apartment.

A friend of the victim had initially entered the apartment through the window.

The victim's family became concerned about her when they hadn't heard from her for a few days.
