Big fight disrupts Stony Point High School
More arrests are expected in connection with Thursday's fight at Stony Point High School in Round Rock.
The fight broke out in the school's common area in and around the cafeteria. Two 17-year-old girls were take to jail and charged with rioting and resisting arrest. Two 16-year-old males were also charged with riot and resisting arrest.
Round Rock police said initial reports of several students being struck with batons were untrue.
“One officer did deploy his baton and one student was struck and one student was arrested. But these visions of police marching through the crowds, hitting people indiscriminately, is not true, it did not happen,” Officer Eric Poteet said.
Officials are reviewing the school's surveillance video to determine what actually happened before any more arrests are made.
“There were different levels of involvement; you know, people that were actively fighting with each other, other people who were fighting the police, people that may have just exacerbated the situation by being there. There's any number of crimes that could have been committed, any number of levels of involvement,” Poteet said.
About 30 officers were involved in getting the fight under control. No one was seriously hurt.
