Colton Pitonyak took the stand in his own defense Friday. He's the former UT student on trial for the murder of Jennifer Cave.
In his testimony, Pitonyak admits to killing Jennifer Cave, but said he's not responsible for cutting her up.
He said he was quote "messed up" when Cave was killed and doesn't remember much after the two went to Sixth Street for dinner and drinks.
"Murder is to intentionally and knowingly cause the death of another. Did you intentionally and knowingly cause the death of Jennifer?" Pitonyak was asked.
"No I did not," he said.

This statement is a key piece of testimony because it indicates that the murder was not premeditated.
If the jury finds that the murder was not intentional Pitonyak could get a lighter sentence.
If he is convicted of murder, Pitonyak faces anywhere from probation to life in prison.
The trial could be completed next week.
Court TV is carrying the trial live. You can watch it on Time Warner Cable channel 57.
