Hall may face new charges for role in Cave murder
Laura Hall, the woman who fled to Mexico with her lover after he murdered another woman in Austin, was in court Monday for a pre-trial hearing.
Former UT student Colton Pitonyak was convicted of murdering Jennifer Cave in 2005. He was sentenced to 55 years in prison.
During his trial, Pitonyak pointed to Hall when asked about the mutilation of Cave's body.
Pitonyak's defense team called Hall to the stand, but she refused to testify, invoking her 5th Amendment right to protect herself against self-incrimination.
Initially, Hall only faced charges of hindering apprehension for her role in helping Pitonyak escape the country.
But the district attorney's office could add an additional charge of mutilation of a corpse.
