Judge: Laura Hall's police statement will be used in court

By: News 8 Austin Staff

Laura Hall's defense team lost a motion to suppress a statement she gave police on Monday.

Hall is charged with tampering with evidence related to the Colton Pitonyak murder case. Earlier this year, Pitonyak was convicted of killing Jennifer Cave in 2005.

Hall's attorneys say the statement she gave police in August 2005 should be thrown out, because she wasn't given the opportunity to have a lawyer present at the time.

After reviewing police videotapes of Hall's interview, Judge Wilford Flowers ruled that Hall had waived her right to an attorney and the statement is admissible.

Meanwhile, Hall's father claims that Pitonyak physically abused his daughter.

"Pitonyak continues abusing her. He's a murderer, he's a womanizer, [and] a convicted felon. And now he's using the justice system to continue his abuse against her," Loren Hall said.

Another pre-trial hearing is scheduled for July 26. Hall's trial is set to begin on Aug. 27.
